People’s Public Security Sports team wins gold at martial arts tournament in Russia

VOV.VN - The Vietnam People’s Public Security Sports team clinched one gold and one bronze medal at the 22nd International Mixed Martial Arts Tournament held in Russia from October 12 to 16.

Invited by the International Martial Arts Federation of Russia (IMAF), the team of four coaches and athletes competed with strong determination and made a solid impression on the international stage.

This year’s tournament gathered seven international delegations and seven Russian teams, featuring 170 male and female competitors. Vietnamese athlete Vu Thi Duong captured the gold medal in the 75-kg category, while teammate Vu Thu Thao earned bronze in the 70-kg division.

The achievement follows the team’s strong showing in 2024, when they won one gold and two bronze medals at the same event.

On the sidelines, the Vietnam People’s Public Security Sports Association and the International Martial Arts Federation of Russia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation.

The MoU aims to boost long-term cooperation in training and coaching for mixed martial arts, thereby strengthening sports and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Russia.

The event not only marks an important step forward for Vietnam’s public security sports on the international stage but also reinforces the comprehensive friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Mixed martial arts, a high-intensity combat discipline that blends techniques from boxing, kickboxing and other styles, is widely practiced among the armed forces of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
