National Junior Vovinam Championship kicks off

VOV.VN - The 18th National Junior Vovinam Championship got underway on October 19 in Hau Giang province, with participants coming from across the country to compete in various categories of the traditional Vietnamese martial art.

This year’s tournament will see the participation of approximately 800 martial artists from 36 cities and provinces nationwide.

They will be competing for 78 sets of medals across 32 categories of performance and 46 divisions of combat across three age groups, including 12 to 15, 16 to 18, and 19 to 21.

Each competitor is permitted to take part in a maximum of three events.

The championships is to select young martial artists who can make the step up and join the national team.

Vovinam is a martial art that is practiced both with and without weapons. It is based on a mixture of both hard and soft motions and actions. Indeed, the martial art technique includes training the body and mind, while it also utilises hand motions, elbows, kicks, as well as escape and levering methods.

Vovinam was originally founded by late grandmaster Nguyen Loc in the capital in 1938 and has since grown to involve more than 2 million practitioners in roughly 70 countries globally.
