Local player finishes second at Hanoi GM and IM chess tournament
VOV.VN - Tran Tuan Minh won the runner-up title in the Grandmaster (GM) event of the Hanoi GM and IM chess tournament which concluded in the capital on May 29.
The local player bagged a gold medal in the rapid chess event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), although he didn’t enjoy a positive start to the tournament. However, after making every effort to take a total of 5.5 points, Minh finished second in the GM event.
Tin Jingyao of Singapore, who pocketed a bronze medal in standard chess at SEA Games 31, became the ultimate winner of the GM event, earning a total of seven points after nine matches.
In the International Master (IM) event the champion went to Concio Michael of the Philippines with seven points, followed by Indonesian player Arfan Aditya Bagus with 6.5 points.
Elsewhere, Vietnamese player Vo Thanh Ninh came third with 5.5 points.
The Hanoi GM and IM chess tournament held between May 24 and May 29 saw 10 local players participate against 10 international players from India, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Ukraine.
Six among them competed at the SEA Games 31 from May 12 to May 23 held in Hanoi and cities and provinces across the north of the country.
