Liem finishes second at Oslo Esports Cup

VOV.VN - Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem came second at the Oslo Esports Cup after enjoying a victory over world No.26 Van Foreest Jorden of Norway in the final match of the tournament held on April 28.

In the opening game, Liem had the advantages of holding the white pawn and was able to beat the Norwegian player after 66 moves. However, Jorden was able to turn the tables on Liem to bring the second game to a draw after 37 moves.

The next two games saw various counterattacks from both players, forcing them to accept a 2-2 draw. The final result was decided by a tiebreak by playing two Blitz chess games, with Liem ultimately proving to be successful in defeating Jorden.

As a result, he ranked second in the tournament after earning 13 points.

Elsewhere, reigning world champion Jan Krzysztof Duda of Poland  took the lead with 14 points to become the champion of the Oslo Esports Cup.

After recording a total of five wins at the event, Liem walks away with prize money of US$32,500. The local grandmaster is set to return to the nation on May 8 to compete at the SEA Games 31, which is scheduled to take place in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
