Kim Sang Sik names squad for ASEAN U-23 title defence

VOV.VN - Head coach Kim Sang Sik has called up 35 players for the third training session ahead of the 2025 ASEAN U-23 Championship, as Vietnam aims for a third consecutive title.

The squad includes many familiar faces from previous camps under interim coach Dinh Hong Vinh, notably eight players who helped secure the 2023 title. Among them is midfielder Khuat Van Khang, a regular in the senior national team.

Striker Nguyen Dinh Bac returns after recovering from a broken toe sustained in March. The 2004-born forward is considered one of Vietnam’s most promising young talents, having scored against the Philippines and Japan in recent international fixtures.

Two overseas Vietnamese players, midfielder Le Viktor (Hong Linh Ha Tinh FC) and striker Bui Alex (Bohemians Praha 1905 B, Czech Republic), have also been named, alongside rising midfielder Nguyen Ngoc My, back from injury.

Striker Bui Vi Hao, however, will miss the tournament due to a long-term injury requiring surgery.

The team will train in Ba Ria–Vung Tau from June 26 before departing for Indonesia on July 14. In the group stage, Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22.

Vietnam has won the ASEAN U-23 Championship twice in a row, in 2022 and 2023.
