Kim Sang-sik and his players return home as ASEAN U23 Champions

VOV.VN - Head coach Kim Sang-sik and the U23 Vietnam national team arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, on July 30 marking the end of their victorious campaign at the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship in Indonesia, where they successfully defended their title.

The team departed Indonesia at 13:50 (local time), transited through Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, and continued on to Hanoi. Players affiliated with southern clubs returned home directly to rest before regrouping with their clubs for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, players from northern clubs continued their journey to Hanoi.

The squad received a warm welcome at Noi Bai International Airport from enthusiastic fans and representatives of the Vietnamese sports and football authorities.

At the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship, Vietnam delivered a dominant performance with a perfect record. Midfielder Khuat Van Khang and his teammates defeated Laos 3-0 and Cambodia 2-1 in the group stage, edged the Philippines 2-1 in the semi-finals, and overcame hosts Indonesia 1-0 in the final. This marks the third consecutive ASEAN U23 title for Vietnam.

This victory also extends the impressive streak of coach Kim Sang-sik, who, within just over a year, has guided Vietnamese teams to two major regional championships - the 2024 ASEAN Cup and the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship, maintaining a 100% title-winning record in official tournaments.

Kim and his players are expected to continue their strong form at the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers in September, and most notably, at the 33rd SEA Games in December.
