International Boxing Federation to hold annual convention in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has announced plans to stage its 41st annual convention at The Grand Ho Tram in Ho Chi Minh City in late May 2026.

IBF officially launched preparations for the meeting, marking the first time one of the world’s four major professional boxing organisations will host its annual convention in a Southeast Asian country. The gathering is expected to welcome more than 400 delegates from 60 countries and territories.

The convention aims to serve as a global networking platform bringing together world champions, boxing administrators, event promoters and officials. Key discussions will focus on professional matters such as refereeing and judging, medical standards, event safety and governance, alongside opportunities for direct exchanges with legendary fighters and expanded networking activities.

“We are proud to bring our convention to Vietnam, a country whose story of resilience, growth, and modernization reflects many of the same values that define the sport of boxing”, says IBF President Daryl Peoples.

“We look forward to building strong, lasting relationships with our partners in Vietnam, while we continue to deepen our established relationships across Asia and the rest of the world, as we work together to support the continued growth and global recognition of the sport of boxing”, he added.

Organisers have also indicated the possibility of staging exhibition bouts for fans attending the convention in Ho Tram. While the list of boxing legends has yet to be announced, it is expected to feature notable names that will offer memorable experiences for spectators.

The 41st IBF convention is seen as a significant opportunity for Vietnamese boxing to align with international standards in event organisation and professional development. The event is also anticipated to stimulate fresh initiatives across Southeast Asia, particularly in youth training, capacity building at the grassroots level, and creating pathways for fighters to compete on the global stage.

The convention is scheduled to take place from May 24 to 28 at The Grand Ho Tram resort.
