Hosting rights for 2027 AFF U23 Championship granted to Vietnam for first time
VOV.VN - Vietnam will host the 2027 AFF U23 Championship, marking the first time in history the national U23 team plays in the tournament as the host nation.
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) decided to award the hosting rights to Vietnam during a recent AFF Competitions Committee meeting. This milestone reflects AFF's recognition of the Vietnam Football Federation's (VFF) credibility, experience, and capacity in organizing international tournaments.
The AFF U23 Championship has been held five times previously, with Thailand hosting twice, Cambodia twice, and Indonesia once. Vietnam is the most successful team in the tournament's history with three titles. In 2025, the country claimed the championship after defeating Indonesia 1-0 in the final.
The 2027 tournament is scheduled for July, following the 2028 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers in June. Consequently, participating teams are expected to call up players born in 2005 or later.
The host localities and stadiums for the 2027 edition will be announced later by VFF and AFF.
