HCM City Television Cycling Cup: Dzianis Marchuk wins dramatic final stage

VOV.VN - Belarusian rider Dzianis Marchuk of Kenda Dong Nai club on April 30 delivered a dramatic win in Stage 25, the final stage of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cycling Cup, after a nail-biting sprint finish in the closing metres.

Concluding nearly a month of racing across Vietnam, the 133km final stage from Tay Ninh to Ho Chi Minh City held special significance as it took place during the April 30 national holiday.

The peloton set off at 8:00 a.m. and reached the finish line in front of Independence Palace at around 11:20 a.m., greeted by festive crowds and enthusiastic roadside support.

From the outset, riders pushed the pace, creating an aggressive and constantly shifting race dynamic.

Vietnamese cyclists made strong impressions throughout the stage. At Sprint 1, Vo Thanh An of Chau Thoi Vinh Long club surged ahead to take the win, while Sprint 2 went to Pham Quoc Cuong (Dong Thap 1), followed by Dang Thanh Duoc (Hanoi) and Nguyen Huong (Vo Dac Dong Nai).

Despite multiple breakaway attempts and time spent at the front, local riders were unable to secure a stage victory. As the peloton regrouped for a mass sprint finish, Belarussian Dzianis Marchuk timed his acceleration perfectly, surging ahead to claim the stage win.

The victory marked his seventh stage triumph of the tournament, solidifying his status as the race’s leading sprinter.

The final stage turned into a true sporting celebration, with crowds lining both sides of the route. At the finish area near the Independence Palace, side events, including a cycling parade featuring more than 500 amateur riders, added to the vibrant atmosphere.

The 2026 edition marked the 38th running of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cycling Cup, which began in Phu Tho province on April 3, featured 25 stages across the country, and concluded in Ho Chi Minh City on the historic April 30. Beyond competition, the race also carried strong social value, with sponsors contributing more than VND2.5 billion to charitable initiatives and scholarships throughout the journey.
