HAGL rising star earns Vietnam late draw against Japan at AFC U17 Asian Cup

VOV.VN - Tran Gia Bao of Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) scored a stoppage-time penalty to help U17 Vietnam hold U17 Japan to a 1-1 draw, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup fiinals alive.

On April 7, U17 Vietnam faced U17 Japan in their second Group B match at the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Despite conceding an early goal in the 14th minute, Vietnam stuck to their tactical game plan laid out by head coach Cristiano and his staff.

Their persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match. In the 96th minute, Gia Bao made a burst forward to chase a long ball from a teammate and was brought down in the box by Japanese goalkeeper Ejike. From the penalty spot, the HAGL striker stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to level the score at 1-1.

With two points after two matches, U17 Vietnam remain in contention for a spot at the 2025 U17 World Cup finals.
