Four more golds for Vietnam at 2025 ASEAN School Games in Brunei

VOV.VN - Vietnamese athletes have claimed four more gold medals at the ongoing 2025 ASEAN School Games (ASG) in Brunei, following the first won on November 23.

The fifth medal was grabbed by young talent Nguyen Quang Thanh who defeated Malaysian rival Maulana in the men’s 71 kg division. This victory helped the Vietnamese team maintain sixth place in the overall medal standings.

Earlier, the team had earned four gold medals thanks to the achievements of Ly Mui Sau and Trieu Thi Binh (in athletics), Huynh Anh Thuan (in pencak silat) and Le Trung Thanh (in pencak silat).

As of November 27, Vietnamese athletes have earned 5 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals. Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia currently occupy the top three positions in the medal table.

Vietnam’s standings are unlikely to change, as November 28 is the penultimate day of competition and the team no longer has events remaining.

This year, Brunei is hosting the 2025 ASEAN School Games from November 20 to 28. It attracted the participation of more than 1,000 athletes from student sports delegations across Southeast Asia. The Games feature a total of 106 medal events across all sports.

Vietnam dominated the 2024 edition, winning 44 gold medals, followed by Indonesia with 22 and Thailand with 18.
