Football betting in Vietnam to extend to more international tournaments
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Finance is revising a Government decree that allows Vietnamese football fans to bet on many international tournaments as opposed to just FIFA run matches.
Under the draft decree, football betting can extend to 27 international tournaments, including the qualifying and final rounds of the FIFA World Cup (for both men and women), UEFA Euro, UEFA Champions League, AFC Champions League, AFC Cup, and Copa America.
Bettors can also place their money on five leading football tournaments in European nations, namely the English Premier League of the United Kingdom, La Liga of Spain, Serie A of Italy, Bundesliga of Germany, and League 1 of France.
The draft decree still maintains a betting limit of VND10,000/time and a maximum of VND1 million/day. Bettors must be 21 years of age or older.
Regarding betting methods, the Ministry of Finance allows bettors to place their bets via the internet instead of phones and other terminal devices.
Firms that run betting business must be in Vietnam. They must have registered capital of more than VND1,000 billion, of which foreign investors’ equity can exceed 50%
The current decree which was promulgated in 2017 only allows players to bet on international football matches and tournaments announced by FIFA. According to the Ministry of Finance, the existing decree has not attracted bookmakers as there are few official FIFA-run tournaments.
