First gold medal for Vietnam at Asian shooting championship in Kazakhstan

VOV.VN - Nguyen Mai Chi has brought home Vietnam’s first gold medal in the 10m moving target women junior at the ongoing 16th Asian Championship Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun held in Kazakhstan.

Chi competed against Khussainova Kamila of Kazakhstan in the final after taking the lead in the qualifying round with 552 points. After the decisive series, she triumphed 6-1 to claim the gold medal, the first for Vietnam at this year’s championship.

In the same class, shooter Le Thao Ngoc defeated Kazakhstan’s Fedorova Kamilla 6-4 to win the bronze medal.

Vietnam also earned another bronze medal in the team category of the 10m moving target women, with a total score of 1,364 points from Nguyen Mai Chi, Le Thao Ngoc, and Duong Ha My. The top prize went to Kazakhstan Team 1 with 1,533 points.

Vietnam has sent 20 shooters to the 16th Asian Championship Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun which is taking place in Kazakhstan from August 16 to 30, with the participation of 750 shooters from 28 countries and territories worldwide.

On August 23, Vietnamese athletes are scheduled to compete in the 10m air rifle team for men and women.
