FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy arrives in Vietnam
VOV.VN - The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy touched down in Vietnam on March 4 as part of a promotional tour being held in the buildup to the tournament which is scheduled to be held in Australia and New Zealand later this year.
Designed by William Sawaya of the Milanese firm Sawaya and Moroni, it weighs 4.6 kg and stands at 47 cm tall. The trophy is made from gold-plated brass and features a base made from candeias granite. It is valued at about US$30,000.
Upon addressing the trophy procession which was held at 9 a.m. on March 4 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi, Tran Quoc Tuan, president of Vietnamese Football Federation (VFF) affirmed that the Vietnamese women’s team had made history by earning a place at the 2023 Women's World Cup. Their participation in this year’s finals in Australia and New Zealand marks their ever appearance at the international tournament.
Tuan noted that the team has shown talent, intelligence, will, and bravery to overcome a number of difficulties and achieve this goal.
He also wished them the best of luck at the competition, which will contribute to introducing the country’s image to the world.
Vietnam was the fourth destination in the trophy’s journey after Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Philippines.
On July 14, the trophy tour will end its journey in the host country New Zealand, one week before the tournament officially kicks off.
At the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the Vietnamese women's team will be in Group E, with the United States, the Netherlands, and one of Thailand, Portugal, or Cameroon.
