Female footballers depart for AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup in Uzbekistan
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s football U20 team led by Japanese head coach Akira Ijiri left for Uzbekistan on February 21 to compete in the final round of the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup which will take place from March 3 to 16.
Ijiri brought with him 25 players selected from a recent training course in Hanoi. Among the shortlisted players, Ngoc Minh Chuyen, and Vu Thi Hoa who won the Golden Ball 2023 awards made the squad.
For the early departure, the Vietnamese players will have more time to adapt to the extreme cold weather in Tashkent where temperatures will fall to below 10 degrees Celsius. They are set to play two friendly matches against hosts Uzbekistan ahead of the competition.
Vietnam are scheduled to play in Group B alongside defending champions Japan on March 4, second runners-up Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on March 7, and 2006 champions China on March 10.
Meanwhile, hosts Uzbekistan will face the Republic of Korea, Australia, and Chinese Taipei in Group A.
The top four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia as the AFC representatives.
