Deputy PM attends send-off ceremony for Vietnam sports delegation to ASIAD 20
VOV.VN -Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra attended a send-off ceremony in Hanoi on September 9 for the Vietnamese sports delegation competing at the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Running from September 19 to October 4, the upcoming Games mark Japan's return as host for the first time in 32 years since Hiroshima 1994.
The Vietnamese delegation, set to depart in separate groups starting September 16, has set a target of securing at least four gold medals.
Achieving this target demands substantial effort amid fierce competition from leading sporting nations. China fields a powerful contingent targeting both ASIAD success and preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, while the Republic of Korea maintains strong medal prospects in traditional disciplines such as archery, taekwondo, fencing, and badminton.
Beyond formidable opponents, Vietnamese athletes face persistent challenges in sports science, training technology, nutrition, and recovery. Success will depend heavily on optimizing strengths in key sports and maintaining peak performance during critical moments.
The send-off ceremony marks the final stage of preparation for the delegation, serving as a vital momentum builder as Vietnam prepares for the continental sporting arena.
