Coach Park appointed as Global Tourism Ambassador for Seoul

VOV.VN - Head coach of the Vietnamese men’s national football team Park Hang-seo was unveiled as the Global Tourism Ambassador of Seoul as part of the "Soulful Seoul Night" tourism promotion event held on August 3 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event is taking place as part of Seoul’s tourism promotion activities which aim to boost tourism connection between the southern Vietnamese metropolis and the capital of the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said that selecting coach Park as the Global Tourism Ambassador is part of efforts to strengthen the connection between the two countries in terms of tourism and cultural exchanges.

At the event, coach Park sent sincere thanks to both Korean and Vietnamese people who have offered him plenty of support since he took on the role of head coach of the Vietnamese team back in 2017.

The national team manager has spent five years working in Vietnam and has greatly contributed to the Vietnamese national team’s various achievements over recent years.

The Vietnamese team, under the leadership of coach Park since 2017, finished as runner-up of the 2018 AFC Asian Cup U23 in January, 2018, for the first time; fourth at the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD) in August, 2018, for the first time; champions of the AFF Suzuki Cup in December, 2018, after 10 years without winning the tournament; and making it to the quarterfinals of the AFC Asian Cup in January, 2019, for the first time.

This is in addition to winning gold medals at the 30th SEA Games in 2019, the team’s first in 43 years, and the 31st SEA Games, as well as advancing to the third and final qualification round of the 2022 World Cup, the only Southeast Asian candidate to do so.

The announcement comes after the Korean head coach was also appointed as ambassador for his native Sancheong county in Gyeongsang province in 2018.
