Badminton player and cyclist to carry Vietnamese flag at Olympic Games

VOV.VN - Badminton player Le Duc Phat and cyclist Nguyen Thi That have been chosen to hold the Vietnamese national flag during the opening ceremony of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games which will take place on July 26 in France.

Le Duc Phat is ranked 37th in the latest Badminton World Federation rankings with 23,630 points, thereby securing a place to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Nguyen Thi That is the first Vietnamese cyclist in history to earn a spot at the Olympic Games. She was also the first Vietnamese athlete to win a ticket to the Paris Games after winning a gold medal in the 2023 Asian Road Cycling Championships.

The Vietnamese team comprises of 39 members, including 16 athletes who will be competing in 11 out of the 32 sports getting underway in France from July 26 to August 11.

Archer Do Thi Anh Nguyet will be the first Vietnamese athlete to compete in the games on July 27. Athletes participating in events such as badminton, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, and boxing will all begin their journey at the Olympics Games on July 28.

Track-and-field athletes, cyclists, weightlifters, and canoeist will vie for medals on August 2, August 4, August 7, and August 8, respectively.
