Athletes to depart for 13th ASEAN Para Games on Jan. 15

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s national para sports team will depart for Thailand on January 15 to compete at the 13th ASEAN Para Games, due to take place from January 20 to 26.

The national para sports team consists of 184 members, and is led by Deputy Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam Le Thi Hoang Yen.

A total of 141 Vietnamese athletes will compete in 11 sports, namely athletics, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, boccia, archery, tennis and fencing. They aim to grab between 40 and 50 gold medals and finish among the top four or five teams in the region.

The team builds on the outstanding successes at the 11th and 12th ASEAN Para Games, where they secured more than 65 gold medals at each edition.

The 13th ASEAN Para Games will feature 19 sports across 536 medal events, including athletics, archery, badminton, blind football, boccia, bowling, chess, cycling, seven-a-side cerebral palsy football, goalball, visually impaired judo, powerlifting, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair tennis.
