ASEAN Schools Games offers six sports to student athletes
The 13th ASEAN Schools Games will be held from May 31 to June 9 in Da Nang.
The event was originally scheduled last August but delayed due to a number of reasons.
It will be the second time that the Games is taking place in Da Nang. This year, student competitors from 10 countries will take part in 107 events of six sports: athletics, swimming, basketball, badminton, pencak silat and vovinam.
At a Chef de Mission Meeting was held recently, the organising board reported on the preparations for the Games, checked competition venues and hotels along with discussing and approving regulations.
Under the slogan "Connect and Shine", the competition will connect students from Southeast Asian countries giving them the opportunity to show off their talents and unite the Southeast Asian generation for strong integration and development.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Ngo Thi Minh said that Vietnam was honoured to host the 13th ASEAN Schools Games in 2024, marking the second time it hosted one of the important sport and educational events of Southeast Asia for students.
She expressed her hope that delegation heads would uphold their sense of responsibility and discuss content related to preparation work to contribute to making the Games a success.
Tran Chi Cuong, deputy chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, said, "Da Nang is one of the leading cultural, tourism and sports centres in Vietnam. It is an honour for the city and local residents to be chosen as the venue for the Games.
"Da Nang will make strong effort to prepare facilities and competition venues to best serve the tournament," said Cuong who believed that participants would also have good cultural and travel experiences during their time in the city.
