ASEAN Para Games 13: Vietnamese para athletes add golds, set new records
Vietnamese para athletes continued their impressive run at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand on January 22, with swimmer Vo Huynh Anh Khoa and weightlifter Dang Thi Linh Phuong both winning gold medals, further boosting Vietnam’s medal tally.
On the second day of competition, Khoa claimed his second gold medal at this Games by winning the men’s 100m backstroke in the S7–S8 category, setting a new Games record. The victory extended his remarkable streak at the ASEAN Para Games and provided a significant morale boost for the Vietnamese delegation.
Earlier, the 1991-born swimmer had delivered Vietnam’s first gold medal at the Games in the men’s 400m freestyle S8, successfully defending his title with a time of 5 minutes 26.16 seconds. With more than 30 international gold medals and participation in nine regional Games, Anh Khoa remains a key pillar of Vietnam’s para swimming team, noted for both consistent performance and unwavering determination.
Meanwhile, in weightlifting, Phuong secured gold in the women’s event with a successful lift of 97kg, outperforming rivals from Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The gold marked Vietnam’s second in weightlifting at the games, following Le Van Cong’s earlier triumph.
The achievements once again highlighted Vietnam’s strength, depth and competitive spirit in para sports at the regional level.
ASEAN Para Games 2025: Thailand launches media centre, holds flag-raising ceremony
Preparations for the 13th ASEAN Para Games gained momentum on January 17 with the official launch of the Games’ main press centre and a flag-raising ceremony welcoming the ten participating delegations in Thailand’s northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.
