Aichi pledges support for Vietnam at Asian Games, expands tourism ties
VOV.VN - Aichi Prefecture has pledged to work closely with organisers to support Vietnam’s sports delegation at the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20), while expanding cooperation with Vietnam in culture and tourism.
The statement was made by Ohmura Hideaki, Governor of Aichi Prefecture at a meeting with Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong in Japan on September 18, following the welcoming ceremony and flag-raising event of ASIAD 20 held in the Port of Nagoya on the same day.
Ohmura said Aichi and Nagoya has made extensive preparations for ASIAD 20, with around 15,000 athletes and members of sports delegations from 45 Asian countries and territories expected to attend. Preparations cover accommodation, facilities, logistics, security, healthcare and other services.
He affirmed that the local administration would work closely with the organising committee to facilitate and support participating delegations, including Vietnam’s sports delegation.
Cuong, for his part, thanked Aichi for its support and called for close coordination on registration, entry procedures, accommodation, transport and competition arrangements, as well as timely handling of any issues arising during the Games.
“With these preparations in place, we will strive to achieve good results at the Games,” he said.
The talks also covered cooperation in culture and tourism. Cuong proposed that Aichi work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organise Vietnamese cultural activities and festivals in the prefecture, helping promote Vietnam’s people and cultural heritage while strengthening ties with the Vietnamese community there.
About 75,000 Vietnamese people currently live in Aichi. Cultural exchanges, including the Vietnam Festival in Aichi, have been organised on the foundation of cooperation between Aichi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The two sides also welcomed plans for Aichi to organise a cultural festival in Ho Chi Minh City, creating another opportunity for people-to-people exchanges and cultural promotion.
In the longer term, Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Aichi aim to build broader cooperation in culture, sports and tourism, building on discussions held previously in Hanoi on developing and signing cooperation documents.
