14-player squad named for FIFA U15 World Cup 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam U15 have finalized a 14-player squad to compete in the FIFA U15 World Cup 2026 in Azerbaijan under head coach Hoang Anh Tuan.
To prepare for the tournament, the team trained at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre starting September 22 with an initial 34-player roster. During training, the coaching staff evaluated the squad and adjusted training plans to help players adapt to the tournament's specific format. Ahead of departure, head coach Hoang Anh Tuan selected the final 14 players in line with tournament regulations.
Regarding preparations, Hoang Anh Tuan notes that the FIFA U15 World Cup 2026 features an 8v8 format, with rules differing significantly from traditional 11-a-side football. He considers this an opportunity for young players to develop tactical awareness, creativity, and adaptability to modern football demands.
"Football requires expertise, physical fitness, and technique, but tactical thinking is equally crucial," Tuan says. "Players must make independent decisions on the pitch and adapt tactically. We encourage them to be creative and make a difference, building a foundation for their current and future development."
On the evening of October 21, the Vietnam U15 squad departs for Azerbaijan for the tournament, running from October 24 to 30. Operating under a festival model, teams play through multiple stages without early elimination, allowing players to gain experience and connect with international peers.
This marks the inaugural edition of the FIFA U15 World Cup, with a view to identifying and developing young talent under the slogan "Give Every Talent a Chance."
According to the draw, Vietnam U15 are in Group R alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Guyana, Iran, and Mauritius.
