A ceremony to launch the “Youth for a drug free world” campaign and a day of sports and culture were launched in Hai Phong City on June 14, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention, Truong Vinh Trong, attended the event.

The event was organised by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Information and Communications and Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee.

The ceremony attracted young people from 8 provinces in the Red River Delta.

On addressing the event, Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong said that despite many efforts, the fight against drugs in the country has become very complex and has a bad influence on cultural and socio-economic development. In Vietnam, there are about 150,000 drug addicts, 70 percent of them are young, so it is necessary to find a solution to ward off this social evil, he noted.

The campaign is focusing on informing people of the law and knowledge on how to prevent young people from using drugs.

It will last until August 15.
