Young Hanoians have easily adapted to the rapidly-changing information technology trend, according to Dr. Kristin Braa, Executive Manager of the Norway-based Telenor Group's Research and Renovation Centre for Asia-Pacific.

This information was released in Hanoi on December 12 following a survey conducted on people aged 18-24,

The survey showed that youths in Vietnamese cities send five or six messages and make a similar number of cell phone calls a day while Malaysian youngsters send an average of 18 messages a day and rarely make a call.

Mobile phones were at first used to make calls but new services were gradually added to satisfy the increasing needs of the Vietnamese society.

The same survey revealed that a large proportion of the Vietnamese young generation uses pre-paid cards with an average expenditure of VND300,000 per month. They enjoy going to Internet cafes despite having their home computers linked to Internet services. Yahoo Messenger remains the most popular electronic communication means among Vietnamese youths.
