WWF hails Vietnamese biodiversity conservation
VOV.VN - Vietnam leads the way in terms of biodiversity preservation in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Marco Lambertini, director general of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) International.
Upon addressing an event aimed at preserving Vietnamese natural heritage, held on the sidelines of the ongoing 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Canada, Lambertini noted that the country has taken drastic steps to fulfill its international biodiversity commitments.
The WWF will continue its close co-ordination with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) during the implementation period of the national biodiversity targets.
The event saw MoNRE Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan brief participants on the country’s outstanding biodiversity values, as well as the nation’s contributions to achieving its global biodiversity targets.
He also underscored the significance of striving to expand partnerships, including public-private partnerships, in order achieve the National Biodiversity Strategy by 2030 with a vision towards 2050.
In a pre-recorded speech, Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed strong Vietnamese support and commitment to materializing international initiatives and commitments in a responsible manner.
A representative of the Vietnamese Biodiversity Conservation Agency (BCA) spoke of co-operation priorities in terms of biodiversity conservation as a means of successfully implementing the National Biodiversity Strategy. Indeed, this plan has received support from partners, especially the World Bank (WB), the EU, and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), among others.
