The 17th Assembly of World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) under the theme "Reinforcing the struggle against imperialist aggression and exploitation and working for peace, solidarity and social transformation," opened in Hanoi on March 10.

This is the first time Vietnam has hosted the event, demonstrating the country’s active contribution to the world democratic youth movement, as well as affirming the federation leaders and member countries’ trust in Vietnam. This is also an opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its land, people, culture and socio-economic achievements to international friends.

On behalf of Vietnamese youth, first Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vo Van Thuong said through the congress Vietnamese youth want to show solidarity and support for youth and people of other countries in their struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress.

The WFDY President, Miguel Madeira, praised the efforts made by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Communist Party of Vietnam in helping organise the congress successfully.
