WHO swiftly delivers botulism antitoxin to Vietnam
VOV.VN - The World Health Organization (WHO) said on March 11 it had delivered five vials of botulism antitoxin to Da Nang city to support the treatment of three critically ill patients suspected of botulism poisoning.
After receiving an alert from national health authorities, WHO activated resources across its country office, regional office and headquarters to identify available supplies from its global stockpile in Geneva and arrange immediate shipment to Vietnam.
The organization coordinated closely with the Ministry of Health, local health agencies, and airport and logistics partners to ensure the antitoxin reached Da Nang quickly and safely.
Angela Pratt, WHO Representative in Vietnam, expressed deep concern about the affected patients and their families and thanked medical teams who are providing round-the-clock intensive care.
She said the rapid response highlighted the importance of strong partnerships and good preparation. WHO would continue working with Vietnam to strengthen the country’s capacity to respond quickly to health emergencies and to improve overall health security in coordination with the Ministry of Health and partners.
Botulism antitoxin is a rare but critical medicine that can prevent further harm from the toxin and significantly improve chances of recovery when administered in time.
