White waterspout spotted in Quang Ninh after thunderstorms

VOV.VN - A white waterspout suddenly appeared in Quang Ninh province, Northern Vietnam, on May 29 following heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.

According to local authorities in Hoanh Bo ward, the phenomenon was spotted near the Thang Long Cement Plant around midday and lasted for several minutes.

Earlier in the morning, the area experienced thunderstorms accompanied by lightning before skies gradually cleared toward noon.

Witnesses observed the large white funnel cloud forming and moving across the area, creating a striking scene shortly after the storm.

This is not the first such weather phenomenon recorded in Quang Ninh recently. On June 5, a large waterspout also appeared and moved rapidly near Co To Island, where strong thunderstorms later uprooted multiple trees.

A waterspout is a rotating column of air formed over water or humid surfaces, typically extending from cumulonimbus storm clouds and creating a funnel-shaped vortex.

The phenomenon usually develops during severe thunderstorms and often lasts only a short period. As it moves, a waterspout can carry debris and potentially cause localised damage.
