Seventeen houses and four classrooms collapsed when whirlwinds struck Yen Bai province’s Luc Yen district on April 22. Whirlwinds also damaged nearly 250 houses, destroyed 15ha of maize and other subsidiary crops and brought down 10 electric poles in the district.
Strong winds and hailstorms ravaged Mu Cang Chai district on April 21-22, damaging 170 houses in Ho Bon, Lao Chai, Mo De, De Xu Phinh, and La Pan Tan communes. Total loss was estimated at nearly VND80 million.
Meanwhile, strong winds accompanied by heavy rains blew roofs off 40 houses and destroyed tens of hectares of the spring-summer rice crop in Dai Tu district, Thai Nguyen province. There is no report of casualties.

The natural disaster also damaged and tore off the roofs of more than 400 houses in Lao Cai province. Torrential rains triggered water levels in local rivers and streams to swell by 15-50cm. Early flooding was reported in several areas through which the Red River runs. Local administration mobilised rescue forces to make a list of families in need of support and assist them.
