Hailstones and whirlwinds caused by the current cold snap on March 29 blew off 50 roofs of local houses in Cao Son communes, Anh Son district of the central province of Nghe An.

More than 20 houses were seriously damaged, according to local authorities.

The natural calamity also destroyed more than 20 ha of winter-spring rice crop and brought down many other fruit and industrial trees.

The authorities in Cao Son commune sprang into action on March 30 to clear the debris and deal with the consequences of the freak storm.

This is the worst weather Anh Son district has seen this year and the damage is estimated to cost over VND800 million. No one was injured.
