A delegation from the bank, headed by Paul Valley, the WB’s project coordinator, held a meeting with the authorities of the five recipient provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh as part of the project to improve the infrastructure of Mekong Delta coastal provinces.

The talks were aimed at reaching a consensus on how to put the project into action before the WB can meet with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and agree on a finished project plan to submit to the government, said Vo Quoc Viet, Head of the Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee Office.

Each province will receive US$30 million to improve their road networks.

According to provincial leaders, 26 roads are in immediate need of repair as part of the areas’ socio-economic development strategy and also to facilitate local people’s needs, especially for rescue services in case of natural disasters.
