The invitation was extended at the 7th Asia Media Conference which closed in Beijing, China on May 26. The event had attracted 850 delegates, including the heads of media agencies and academics from many countries in the Asia-Pacific region across the world. Among them were representatives from the Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications, VOV and Vietnam Television (VTV).
Under the theme" Creativity, prestige, interest and responsibility", the conference focused on 9 topics, including the journalistic ethnics, press freedom, culture and a range of diversity of radio, television and new technologies.

At the closing ceremony, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) which had initiated the Asia Media Conference, officially announced that VOV will host the 8th Asia Media Conference.
In his address, the Head of VOV's International Cooperation Department, Nguyen Tien Long said, " It is a great honour for VOV to host the next Asia Media Conference in Hanoi in May 2011. On behalf of VOV General Director, I would like to invite all the delegates to visit Vietnam's 1000 year-old capital city for the 8th Asia Media Conference, an important event in the AIDB’s calendar. “
The Asia Media Conference which was first held in 2004 and takes place every year.
VOV has worked closely with the relevant ministries and sectors to prepare for the forthcoming conference.
