VOV President hosts reception for Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Do Tien Sy, a member of the Party Central Committee and president of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), hosted a reception for Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Gass on August 12 in Hanoi.

In his speech, the VOV leader  affirmed that there have been special milestones recorded in the development of diplomatic relations, particularly with Switzerland being the historical location of the Geneva Conference on the cessation of hostilities and the restoration of peace in Indochina in 1954.

Throughout various different periods, the two countries have enjoyed a close-knit relationship across a variety of fields, including the economic and social spheres, Sy said.

Being a leading multimedia press agency with eight radio channels, 16 TV channels, two online newspapers, one print newspaper, and multiple applications for distributing multimedia content, VOV has conveyed vivid images of the beautiful country of Switzerland, as well as the time-honoured relationship  between the two countries, he added.

VOV has received valuable support from Ambassador Thomas Gass and the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam to achieve these results, Sy told his guest.

The positive support given by the Swiss diplomat has been concretized through his participation in the 20th anniversary of the establishment of VTC Digital Television, an affiliate of VOV, Sy said, noting that the relationship between VOV and Switzerland in the field of communications will grow stronger moving forward due to the Swiss Ambassador's keen interest.

For his part, Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Gass affirmed that the Geneva Conference in 1954 represented an important historical milestone for both countries.

In particular, 2024 has been the year which marks the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conference and the 20th anniversary since the establishment of the VTC Digital Television, which in turn will open up bright prospects ahead to further enhance the role of the press and media in people's lives.

The Swiss diplomat went on to express his belief that as a key multi-platform press agency, VOV will play an important role in strengthening the relationship that between the State and people.

He voiced his hope that there will be more specific co-operation activities between the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam and VOV in the time ahead.
