Securing a place in the hearts of audience has been an aspiration of Radio the Voice of Vietnam for many years. It’s a lifetime commitment for the radio staff to try to modernize the radio and enrich its content.

Successes recorded over the years are the driving force behind their efforts to go down that road to stronger development in 2010.

The landscape of the Vietnamese media is diverse with more than 700 press agencies producing nearly 850 products; 68 radio and TV stations and a wide spread network of Internet sites.

The rapid development of digital technology has enabled the audience to access quite a variety of information sources and entertainment. This reality requires media workers - including VOV staff - to improve their services to better cater to the audience’s needs.

For VOV, the first thing we need to do is to maximize live and open broadcasts to provide news updates and reports to listeners. It’s a very important advantage only live broadcasting has but the printing media does not. In addition, we should also utilize other effective tools – such as its online newspaper to provide news and even video image programmes of entertainment to the audience.

Each media has its own advantages and disadvantages in terms of air coverage and affordability for the listeners. That’s food for thought for the authorities to consider in their development plans.

The second strong point of a modern radio station is that it must be a mirror reflecting the society in a rich format in terms of content and presentation. The Voice of Vietnam is one of many information banks providing the latest and most reliable news to the audience and even to other media agencies. The quality of the news and reports of course depends on our reporters and stringers.

We’re very proud to have stories filed by our reporters from all corners of the country and internationally. What’s happening in Vietnam and the world has been comprehensively reflected on Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

Our radio is truly a forum for government officials and citizens to voice their opinions.

Talk back programs between reporters and listeners have become a growing trend in modern radio. Such a programming draws much interest from the listeners.

One of the functions of the media in Vietnam is to reflect the Party and Government’s policies and guidelines as well as the State laws.

Interactive radio programs are opportunities for the general public to express their thoughts and points of view on what’s happening in their daily lives of interest to them. This is a vivid demonstration of the freedom of speech and true democracy which are being practised in Vietnam.

The booming of the world media has provided the people with a wider scope of reference. It means a strong competition for the media workers to be the winner.

For Radio the Voice of Vietnam, each channel has its own strengths and targeted audience. However how to produce good programs suited to the tastes of the audience is something we have to consider thoroughly. Having a good written program does not guarantee that listeners will enjoy it. Another factor we have to think twice about is how to present it on the air.

Of course, advanced technology is an effective tool, helping us perfect our programs.  Luckily such technology is available for us to make our programs more interesting and help us fulfill our assigned task as the voice of the Party, Government and people.

Many important political, economic and societal events will happen in our country in 2010. We, at the Voice of Vietnam, are resolved to do our best to accomplish our tasks in providing information, education and entertainment to the public in the hope of creating positive effects on the society and to continue the path of modernizing the Voice of Vietnam.
