VOV marks World Radio Day 2018
VOV.VN - Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) will continue its best efforts to become one of Vietnam’s leading multi-media groups, said VOV Vice President Vu Hai at a ceremony marking World Radio Day 2018 hosted by VOV at its Hanoi-based headquarters on February 2.

In his speech, Hai highlighted VOV as a national communications agency covering 4 forms of media: radio, TV, print, and online newspaper.
He emphasized the importance of radio as saying that World Radio Day is to honor radio broadcasters around the world including those at VOV.
It also gives an opportunity to audience across the globe to get a deeper insight into special radio values. In the current multi-media era, radio retains its role as the fastest and most popular means of delivery everywhere and every time.”
2018 is the seventh year since UNESCO launched its World Radio Day initiative on February 13.
The theme for this year's World Radio Day 2018 is “Radio and Sports!” UNESCO invites all radio stations and supporting organisations to join the event, which is seen as a chance to strengthen diversity, peace and development through sports broadcasting.

The theme has been chosen by members of the World Radio Day Committee (formed by the main radio broadcasting organizations and unions) to recognize and mark World Radio Day with global celebrations, which highlight the importance of radio as a medium and focus attention around the advocacy messages of this year’s WRD subthemes such as diversity in sports coverage, gender equality in sports coverage, and peace and development through sports coverage.
Toshiyuki Matsumoto, an UNESCO expert in education programming said, “Sports and radio can join hands in driving for a positive change. I believe in the strength of radio and sports. Being recognized as an instrument to promoting peace, sports help to boost social integration and sustainable development in different geographical cultures and political contexts.
I’m confidence the Voice of Vietnam will follow the moment that sports events can showcase the power of sports in bridging and promoting diversity and solidarity.”
On the occasion, a seminar on radio and sports and simulations of radio production and broadcast was held, seeing the attendance of famed radio journalists, Radio and Television Department leaders and representatives from the Department of Diplomacy and Culture and UNESCO (The Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and UNESCO Representative Office in Hanoi.
