Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ( MoNRE) launched an “Environment and Development 2007” competition in Hanoi on June 4.

The competition aims to raise awareness of environmental protection among all sectors of society, especially in the context that many people and localities leave the whole task to relevant agencies, said Tran Duc Nuoi, vice head of the organizing board, who is also an official of VOV.

Entries to the competition must reflect environmental situations in localities as well as suggesting measures and technologies to protect the environment.

Anyone can participate in the competition from June 5 to December 12 this year.

At the launch ceremony, Tim Mc Auliffe, environment and sustainable development director of Australia’s Alcoa Company, expressed his pleasure at the efforts by VOV and MoNRE, and granted US$20,000 to the organizing board.
