Forty Vietnamese nationals who reside in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand participated in an exchange at VOV’s Radio House in Hanoi on August 22 to recall the atmosphere of the August 1945 Revolution and VOV’s first broadcasts.

Phan Van Hao, 94, who live in Tha Bo, Noong Khai, Thailand, said he was happy to return to the fatherland after 62 years and witness with his own eyes drastic changes in the country. He promised to join hands with other Vietnamese nationals in Laos, Thailand and Cambodia to further contribute to the nation.

Le Van Chuc, who is residing in Phatthalung province, Thailand, sang Quan ho folksongs to show his sentiment towards the homeland.

“Vietnamese nationals in Bangkok were filled with joy after hearing the news that the August Revolution was successful. On September 2, 1945, Vietnamese nationals gathered to listen to President Ho Chi Minh deliver the Declaration of Independence. It was a pity that the signal was too weak. But several days later, we caught VOV broadcasts,” Mr Chuc recalled.

He said that for overseas Vietnamese, VOV has become an indispensable friend in their lives.

Speaking at the exchange, VOV General Director Vu Van Hien praised the overseas Vietnamese community, including those from Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, for their significant contributions to national construction and defence.

He informed the participants of VOV’s development stages over the past 61 years and said VOV has been a leading media agency in Vietnam. With six channels broadcasting in various languages, the national radio has provided local and overseas listeners with up-to-date information about Vietnam and the world. In addition, its online and print newspapers have also helped bring the voice of Vietnam to all readers near and far.
