A delegation from Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) headed by its general director Vu Van Hien has attended the 43rd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) which officially opened in Beijing, China on November 7.

The three-day event has attracted the participation of more than 400 delegates from 115 broadcasting organisations of 36 nations and territories in the Asia-Pacific region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Wang Taihua, Chinese Minister State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said participants will discuss measures to quickly digitalise the broadcasting industry, strengthening the exchange of broadcasting programmes and the development of IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) and outside broadcasting services as well as preparations and plans to cover 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

After the opening ceremony, Mr Hien held a cordial talk with his counterpart Yang Bo. He highlighted the traditional fine relationship between the two countries’ people in general as well as the two radio staffs in particular, especially in the period of Vietnamese renewal and Chinese open-door policies.

Mr Hien expressed his wish to strengthen bilateral cooperation in improving broadcasting skills and promoting broadcasting services in future. He proposed that the Chinese radio and VOV coordinate to organise a Vietnam-China Entrepreneur seminar with the aim of developing bilateral cooperation in trade and economics in the globalisation process, especially after Vietnam has become an official member of the World Trade Organization. Mr Hien invited Mr Yang Bo to visit Vietnam to strengthen cooperation between VOV and the Chinese Radio.

During the three-day event, Mr Hien and his entourage also held working sessions with some other broadcasting organisations.
