With a VND7,000 billion cash injection, vocational training will be comprehensively renovated to improve the quality of the labour force to better prepare it to meet market demands and the international economic integration process.

Deputy head of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs’ general vocational training department Nguyen Tien Dung said that the budget for vocational training, which comes from the 2010 national target programme, is estimated to reach around VND7,000 billion. Accordingly, vocational schools will be upgraded and by 2010 the country will have 40 high-quality vocational schools, three of which reach regional standards and have around 7.5 million qualified labourers.

In the renewal process, vocational training will focus on integration-related matters, foreign languages and development of the vocational training curriculum. Socialisation of vocational training will also be promoted in order to attract participation from all economic sectors.

According to statistics from the General Vocational Training Department (GVTD), more than 1.3 million labourers were trained in 2006, a rise of 11 percent compared to 2005, bringing the total number of trained labourers to 27 percent. GVTD statistics also show that the number of students that finished school and went into employment reached around 70 percent.
