Vietnam’s telecom giants team up for digital safety
Three major telecom operators namely MobiFone, Viettel, and VNPT, have agreed to jointly develop a standardised digital platform under the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, aiming to enhance digital identity verification, combat online fraud, and promote a safer digital ecosystem.

The GSMA Open Gateway, led by the Global System for Mobile Association (GSMA), provides a global framework of common network application programming interfaces (APIs) that streamline access to mobile operator networks.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese telecom service providers will jointly develop a standardised platform to enhance network interoperability and drive digital transformation through the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, by deploying CAMARA APIs.
The collaboration will focus on critical functions including authentication, fraud prevention, geolocation, device verification, and payments. These APIs will also enhance performance for applications such as gaming, virtual reality, and remote operations. In particular, the effort aims to support enterprise clients, especially in finance, in verifying user identities and identifying suspicious transactions.
The Open Gateway framework also enables integration with major cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, as well as tech partners such as Nokia and Ericsson, allowing operators to expand services without major infrastructure investments.
With participation from over 280 mobile networks, covering 80% of global mobile connections, the initiative is fostering a connected digital ecosystem that links developers, system integrators, and telecom providers worldwide, creating new value for both businesses and end users.
