Vietnam aims to apply basic methods of biotechnology, including gene, enzyme-protein, micro and nano-biotechnologies for socio-economic development by 2010, according to the State key programme on biotechnology for the 2006-2010 period.

The country also aims to develop agriculture by using cell reproductive methods in both fauna and flora.

To this end, Vietnam will focus on training human resources, building biotechnology labs and providing scientists, lecturers and students with access to advanced cell reproductive technology imported from foreign countries.

It has made progress in cell reproductive biotechnology in recent years thanks to cooperation with international labs.

To help childless couples, Vietnam has developed vitro fertilisation as well as sperm and egg fertilisation techniques in maternity hospitals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and central Da Nang city.
