Vietnamese youth, student associations in Europe expand connections
VOV.VN - The Union of Vietnamese Youth and Student Associations in Europe (VYSEF) on May 9 successfully held its second congress for the 2026-2031 term in a hybrid format at the Vietnam Cultural Centre in Paris.
The event drew around 80 delegates who are key members of Vietnamese youth and student associations studying and working across Europe, underscoring the organisation’s growing reach among young overseas Vietnamese.
The second congress was regarded as an important milestone marking a new phase in VYSEF’s development following its first term from 2021 to 2026. During the past term, the organisation gradually built a solid foundation, expanded its network of member associations and carried out a range of practical activities aimed at connecting Vietnamese youth and students while helping promote academic, cultural and community activities across Europe.
Following serious, democratic and responsible working sessions, the congress finalized its entire agenda, notably the consolidation of leadership bodies for the new term.
The second-term executive committee, comprising 43 members, was approved, bringing together individuals recognised for their capability and dedication. At the committee’s first meeting, a 15-member standing committee was also elected, consisting of one president and six vice presidents.
Nguyen Phan Bao Thuy was elected President of VYSEF for the second term. In addition, an advisory board for the 2026-2031 term was established to strengthen strategic guidance, while Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh was appointed honorary President of VYSEF.
A key highlight of the congress was the continued expansion of VYSEF’s network across Europe. The organisation admitted new member associations, raising the total number to 14 in France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Spain, Romania, Ireland, Austria, Finland and the United Kingdom.
The expansion further reinforced VYSEF’s role as a large-scale umbrella organisation, helping reinforce solidarity and mutual support among Vietnamese youth and students abroad.
Looking back on the 2021-2026 term, VYSEF launched a wide range of practical activities and programmes. Academic programmes such as young intellectual forums, thematic seminars and career orientation talk shows created an environment for knowledge exchange and skills development among students.
At the same time, cultural and community activities, including the Vietnamese Youth and Students Festival in Europe, cultural exchanges and charitable programmes in support of the homeland, helped foster social responsibility and preserve national identity among young overseas Vietnamese.
For the 2026-2031 term, VYSEF aims to continue developing in a more professional and sustainable direction, focusing on digital transformation, improving operational efficiency, enhancing links among young intellectuals and promoting international cooperation.
The organization will also build a more comprehensive support ecosystem for Vietnamese students abroad, covering study, daily life and career opportunities, thereby continuing to serve as a bridge linking Vietnamese youth in Europe with their homeland and the international community.
