Young Vietnamese have become better aware of information relating to sexual and reproductive health.

The announcement was released in a final survey report as part of the Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia (FHIYA) at a workshop in Hanoi on January 30.

Facing the fact that the knowledge of young Vietnamese about reproductive health and sexual education is not enough, FHIYA was implemented in Vietnam with funds from the EU and the UN Population Funds during 2004-2006 in order to ameliorate the reproductive health conditions of young people aged between 10-24.

The final survey, which had been conducted in 22 communes in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City, showed that FHIYA helped improve teenagers' knowledge about contraceptive methods, family planning, HIV/AIDS, sexual transmitted diseases and other related issues.

The 30-month-long programme also helped to change adults' behaviour towards reproductive health care for teenagers, especially for girls.
