(VOV) - Loos Nguyen Thi Hoai is widely recognised and applauded as among the most active members of Berlin’s Vietnamese women organization VINAPHUNU.

Born in Hanoi, Hoai Thu looks strong and attractive. She holds cooking classes and regularly provides a true taste of home to her fellow VINAPHUNU members.

Her conferences on current affairs attract attendees from a range of Vietnamese regions. She encourages VINAPHUNU members to visit art exhibitions and participate in cultural events such as Berlinale film festival and carnivals.

Hoai Thu organises several annual tours for members to learn more about international cultures, histories, and peoples. In 2010, she guided 20 people on a memorable Vietnam voyage from North to South to trace back to their roots.

A devoted librarian

VINAPHUNU has Germany’s largest Vietnamese library, home to more than 10,000 publications.

The library’s books, magazines, and videos, are professionally categorised to meet member demands. It also keeps a shelf of German language literature on Vietnam for interested local families.

Hoai Thu has nine years of experience as a librarian in Ho Chi Minh City’s Institute of Social Sciences. She chooses books via the internet first and asks her family and friends to help send the packages to Germany.

During a recent working visit to Vietnam, she visited Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for the Blind and presented gifts to visually impaired students there.

Outstanding Berlin woman

In 1999, Hoai Thu was honoured as an Outstanding Berlin Woman, and the German President awarded her the Order of Merit in 2001. She has also earned the Vietnam Women’s Union’s Certificate of Merit for Overseas Vietnamese.

When not busy with her work, she spends her leisure time reading books and playing with her cat Mau Mau.

VINAPHUNU was founded in 1991. The organisation, recognized by the German Union, helps overseas Vietnamese women with residence, marriage, and divorce paperwork. It offers German language lessons to its members and Vietnamese language lessons to their children.

Members of VINAPHUNU are active contributors to charitable activities assisting disabled children in Vietnam.

VINAPHUNU’s dancer members have performed in many countries and now work as doctors, master degree holders, and engineers in the UK, Singapore, the US, and China.
