Vietnamese woman arrested for illegal cocaine transportation

A Vietnamese passenger was arrested at Ho Chi Minh City-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport on August 8 for allegedly transporting cocaine from Brazil to HCM City.

The cocaine was hidden in clothes, cosmetics, footwear and other personal items carried by the 37-year-old passenger, who hails from the central province of Binh Thuan.

The woman said she made friends with a Nigerian online, who helped her buy tickets to Brazil and asked her to send gifts to his relatives in HCM City.

The passenger and the exhibits have been transferred to HCM City’s Narcotic Crimes Investigation Police for further investigation.

Over the past five years, customs officers at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and competent agencies arrested 52 people on suspicion of transporting drugs via the airport.
