Vietnamese scientists in Japan promote strategic technology research
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, in collaboration with FPT Japan and the Vietnam Digital Transformation Association in Japan (VADX) recently hosted a symposium in Tokyo on state-scientist-enterprise cooperation to advance strategic technology- Chip Edge AI.

A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, a Party Central Committee member, joined the event along with Vietnamese experts, scholars, and businesses in Japan.
At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu highlighted the contribution of the Vietnamese community of more than 650,000 in Japan, including nearly 1,000 intellectuals and scientists. He noted that their research, patents, and commercial applications have supported Japan’s economy and academia, and stressed the need to connect this intellectual resource with Vietnam and turn it into economic value with support from the State and businesses.
Discussions centered on ways to link Vietnamese experts in Japan with domestic institutions to advance specialized chip development and other strategic technologies. Five presentations covered topics such as SOT-MRAM Edge AI chips, the role of global Vietnamese intellectuals, FPT’s “bonsai AI” strategy, personalized healthcare applications, and university-based research co-operation.
Professor Pham Nam Hai of Tokyo University of Science said Edge AI development is essential for saving energy, easing transmission burdens, and safeguarding data. He called on Vietnam to engage in startups in this field, especially through venture capital.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed that Vietnam considers semiconductors a strategic sector and pledged government support for Vietnamese scientists in developing core technologies that align with environmental protection and social diversity.
At the symposium, the minister and participants launched the V-S.T.I.D digital network platform to connect overseas Vietnamese intellectuals with research institutes, universities, and enterprises at home.
