An automatic process of forecasting hydrometeorology in the East Sea has been designed for the first time by Vietnamese scientists, said a hydrometeorologist.

This is a closed process, which produces highly precise information and is in line with regional standards, said Prof. Dr. Tran Tan Tien from the Faculty of Hydrometeorology of the Hanoi National University.

Tien, who is also director of the project, added that the process, which covers models for forecasting hydrometeorology in the short term (1-3 days), medium term (7-10 days) and long term (a month), is applicable to various fields.

Eight models, under the process, have been run successfully and can now be used by researchers, Dr. Tien said. He added that they include a model for forecasting storms 5-7 days in advance, a model for forecasting onshore and offshore wave direction and height, a model for forecasting water levels due to floods, and a weather forecast model for even small areas.
Information on the hydrometeorology forecast process is available at http://www.thoitietbien.com.
