Vietnam displayed its only robot named TOPIO at the 2007 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan, from November 20 to December 1.

The humanoid TOPIO, which is a high-tech product of Vietnam’s Toy Joint Stock Company (Tosy), can play ping-pong against human beings.

Tosy experts created the robot with composites made from super-strong and super-light carbon fibres, allowing it to move as swiftly, accurately and flexibly as humans. TOPIO can serve balls, count points and show emotions when wining or losing.

The Japanese press has reported on the Vietnamese robot for several days and remarked that it is an innovative product at the 2007 exhibition.

Many Japanese, American and Canadian manufacturers have proposed cooperating with Tosy to develop the TOPIO robot genre.

This is the first time Vietnam has attended IREX.
