On April 20 Nguyen Dinh Xuan, Director of the Lo Go Xa Mat National Park in the southern province of Tay Ninh, was honoured by the visiting Mayor of Bern, Alexander Tschaeppaet, for his efforts to protect bears in Vietnam.

Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Coordinator of the Wildlife Protection Programme said Xuan had proposed that the illegal transportation of bears in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province should be cracked down upon.

He contacted the Republic of Korea’s authorities and asked them to disseminate information on Vietnam’s law on preserving bears.

The Director then connected international and domestic news agencies to raise public awareness of the need to protect bears and other rare animals.
